North Texas Giving Day

HELP US KEEP THE PROMISE: For more than 20 years, we’ve believed that money should never be the only thing standing between someone and the opportunity to heal, grow, and move forward. Human Resilience grew from that belief—and from a promise we made years ago that we are still working to keep today.

North Texas Giving Day: Help Us Keep the Promise

At SimplyAware, North Texas Giving Day is personal.

For more than 20 years, one belief has remained at the heart of our work:

Money should not be the only thing standing in the way of someone’s healing.

We have seen people arrive ready to make changes in their lives—ready to learn, practice, question old patterns, and consider new possibilities—only to face a very practical obstacle: they cannot afford to begin, or they cannot afford to continue long enough for what they are learning to become part of how they actually live.

That is why Human Resilience exists.

A Promise That Began With Veterans

In 2012, SimplyAware began providing Training Mindfully with Qigong Principles™ (TMQP) to veterans through the VA North Texas Health Care System.

For several years, we had the privilege of working with veterans as they explored awareness, mindfulness, movement, perspective, communication, emotional regulation, and more intentional ways of responding to the challenges in their lives.

When that access ended in 2016, we made a promise:

We would find a way to keep this kind of support available.

Human Resilience grew out of that promise.

Established in 2019 as a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Human Resilience gave charitable structure to a commitment that had existed at SimplyAware from the beginning. Its mission is to help make mindfulness and resilience training accessible to those who serve, those who are underserved, and people who might otherwise be unable to afford access.

The relationship is simple:

SimplyAware is where the work happens. Human Resilience helps make access to that work possible.

What Does “Access” Actually Mean?

Sometimes it means helping someone get started.

Sometimes it means helping someone continue after another source of support has ended.

And sometimes it means providing enough continuity for a person to take what they are learning into real life, discover what works, come back and examine what did not, make adjustments, and practice again.

Because insight can happen quickly.

Integration takes time.

Human Resilience uses a shared-cost approach for qualifying SimplyAware services. Participants contribute what they reasonably can, SimplyAware provides services at reduced nonprofit rates, and Human Resilience helps fund the remaining eligible cost.

In 2025, Human Resilience sponsored 229 services for 36 people.

From January through June of 2026 alone, 23 people received 157 sponsored services—96 classes and 61 individual sessions—with Human Resilience contributing $15,805 toward their access.

Those numbers matter.

But what matters even more is what the numbers represent: another opportunity to show up, another opportunity to practice, another opportunity to respond differently when real life tests what someone has been learning.

A donation does not create change for another person.

It creates access to the work through which change can become possible.

The person still has to do the work.

The Promise Is Growing

Today, Human Resilience continues to help make qualifying SimplyAware services accessible to Veterans, Military, First Responders, educators, healthcare workers, survivors, seniors, and people facing financial hardship.

And we are working to expand what that access can include.

In August, SimplyAware began offering a free weekly SMART Recovery meeting for Military, Veterans & First Responders. Participation is—and will remain—free.

For now, SimplyAware is donating the facilitator time and space necessary to provide the meeting while Human Resilience develops the funding needed to help sustain the real cost of offering it week after week.

We are also working toward a new Training Mindfully with Qigong Principles™ cohort for Military, Veterans & First Responders, returning in a new form to the program that helped inspire the creation of Human Resilience in the first place.

And throughout it all, Human Resilience continues its existing sliding-scale work—helping people access individual sessions, classes, and other qualifying SimplyAware services when finances might otherwise close the door.

What North Texas Giving Day Means to Us

North Texas Giving Day is September 17, and Early Giving is already underway.

This year, Human Resilience has set a goal of $20,000.

That amount will not meet every need we have identified.

At approximately the pace of the first half of 2026, maintaining the current level of sliding-scale access alone would require roughly $32,000 a year. Sustaining the free weekly SMART Recovery program requires additional support. And the proposed TMQP cohort will move forward when sufficient funding is available.

So for us, North Texas Giving Day is about much more than reaching a fundraising number.

It is about making the promise more sustainable.

It is about creating a community of people who believe, as we do, that financial circumstances should not determine who gets an opportunity to learn, practice, grow, and find out what may be possible for them.

It is about helping someone begin.

Helping someone continue.

And giving someone enough time and opportunity to make what they are learning truly their own.

Help Us Keep the Promise

If the work of SimplyAware has mattered to you—or if you simply believe that meaningful support should be accessible to people regardless of what they can afford—we invite you to be part of this.

Please consider making a gift to Human Resilience through North Texas Giving Day.

And if giving is not possible right now, sharing our campaign with someone else matters too.

Every gift helps us create access.

Every share helps more people understand why that access matters.

And together, we can continue working toward the promise we made years ago:

Money should not be the only thing standing in the way of someone’s healing.
